Nearby
You can buy your bread in the local village 2KM away and there are also two small supermarkets, one with it's own charcuterie and boucherie, a post office and a pharmacie.

We can boast our own delightful Chateau Wildlife Park, Branféré which is just 5 minutes away, on the outskirts of lovely Le Guerno - over 120 species from five continents live in this centuries old 40 hectare park; check out their website: www.branfere.com

Beaches
There are so many beaches and many within 15 - 20 minutes away; our guests tell us regularly about another 'jewel' that they have discovered - some of their favourites being:

  • Kervoyal
A favourite with my 5 year old granddaughter Grace - she loves searching in the rock pools with her fishing net and bucket for treasure….!
  • Damgan
Another favourite with guests, there is also a children's playground and various restaurants and cafes.
  • Ambon, Pen Lan and Penestin are all lovely beaches and all of the above are only 15 - 25 minutes away
  • La Baule
Although a little further away, La Baule is definitely worth a visit; this beach has the longest sand beach in Europe and the resort is full of beautiful shops, bars and restaurants - in my view it is the 'St Tropez of Brittany'.
Markets
Once again too many to mention them all (there is a full list in the Guest Information Brochure) but the market at Questembert on a Monday morning is excellent and is famous for it's 16th Century covered market halls.
La Roche Bernard on Thursday morning is also very good and I never miss the market on a Friday morning in Muzillac - less than 10 minutes from our gite.
Fresh is the key word in our part of the world and all the markets sell an abundance of fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables, not to mention all the cheeses, wines and breads - the biggest problem being 'what not to buy'..!

Activities

  • Swimming - the biggest swimming pool in the world is twenty minutes from here (the sea)!
  • Cycling - many people bring along their bikes for exploring the surrounding area and countryside.
  • Golf - check out www.formule-golf.com - you will be spoilt for choice in the Morbihan area and we can loan you a set of golf clubs if required.
  • Fishing - permits are inexpensive - around 10euros a day or 30 euros for 2 weeks and allows you to fish anywhere in Morbihan.
  • Eating out - we have many recommendations from guests as well as our own experiences and are happy to make reservations for you.
Cities and Towns
Rochefort en Terre (20 mins), Josselin (30 mins), Guerande (35 mins), all beautiful medieval towns full of interesting shops, galleries, restaurants and so much more.

Vannes (30 mins) is Southern Brittany's major tourist town and the capital of our department of Morbihan. There are many streets of very attractive half timbered houses and it is one of the prettiest towns in Brittany; constructed in the 16th century, the area around the cathedral is fascinating and wonderful to explore. When you have done the hstorical building tour and visited the wonderful shops then make your way to the port and take a boat trip around the islands in the gulf du Morbihan - wonderful...!

"Lorraine and Paul, thank you for making our stay here so enjoyable. From when we arrived (eventually!) to the time we left we have been made to feel welcome. The gite is kitted out wonderfully with everything we could want and the little touches you added to our stay was precious - from fixing water shooters to bringing in our washing, to giving Molly her favourite mint cordial when you found some, to directing us to good beaches and restaurants - all fantastic. We would love to return and will be recommending the gite to all our friends back in Wales." Heidi, Chris, Amy, Harrison and Molly (aged 12, 8 and 5)
We have compiled a Guest Information Brochure which includes details of the following:
  • Nearest shops and supermarkets 2K
  • Local attractions and places to visit
  • Recommended restaurants 2K
  • Also details of the local doctors surgery 2K (hopefully not required)
If you would like any other information that is not within the brochure we are on site - come and see us and we will do all we can to assist.
There is so much to experience here and we never tire of telling everyone about the area; we get our pleasure from knowing that our guests are having a wonderful time.
